Borderline Personality Disorder

Hi everyone, my name is Michal (pronounced me-hall) and I was diagnosed with Borderline this past May. I wanted to see a specific therapist (who specializes in trauma), however, she told me I could not see her unless I saw a specialist for DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) first. I am having the hardest time doing this and I feel like it’s left me off worse than I was before I started. I was let go from my job right before Covid happened and I’m paying for all of this right out of my pocket which has added a huge amount of stress on me. Has anyone here gone through DBT? I need help. I’ve never done anything like this before (the type of therapy and writing for help on the internet) and I’m scared out of my mind. I don’t have anywhere I can go and I don’t have anyone I can talk to here where I live. I’m doing this alone with no support. Part of DBT is a mandatory group session that has completely destroyed me. I would love to hear other people’s experiences with Borderline and if they sought out therapy for it specifically. Please let me know. I’m scared this isn’t going well and I don’t know if I’ll ever be a version of myself that I’m proud of or even like.

I’m sorry, I haven’t actually gone through this type if therapy. But I do think group therapy would be helpfulz so you could relate to the other people going through the same thing. Is there maybe some kind of state insurance you can get to help with costs? Im no professional but I am here to listen

Hey @Michal,

Thank you for being here! I personally don’t struggle with BPD as far as I know and never had to try DBT therapy either, but I’d like to recommend you DyllonKG’s streaming channel on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/dyllonkg - He’s a mental health advocate, he has BPD and is 100% open to talk about it and what’s been helping him so far. I think you can receive a lot of value and feedback if you share your situation and questions during one of his streams, or even on his Discord. It’s a safe place, a good community, a loving family.

You can also join our Discord if you want to share your thoughts and concerns (if not done already). There are people in our community who shared about their BPD diagnosis and journey and certainly others who gave a tried to DBT - maybe you could receive some answers or connect to other community members there: https://discord.gg/heartsupport Just to increase your chances to receive a response for this specific topic.

Also, beyond your diagnosis, I would like to acknowledge your bravery and the fact that you’ve been doing a lot to overcome your struggles. That’s awesome, friend. And beyond the results or what you might expect, you can be 100% proud of yourself right here and right now, because you’re trying. Most of the time working on our mental health is a real journey. We have to try, to experience new things and see how it goes or if it’s even useful for us. There’s no absolute recipe, as we’re all unique individuals. So congratulations for trying and not giving up. I hear that some experiences might be stressful and disappointing right now, but I also wanted to acknowledge your perseverance and strength here. You’re doing great. Keep walking on that path. And if you ever need to discuss about your experience, you are always welcome to do it here. We might not face the same obstacles, but we can definitely create connections when it’s needed and do our best to lift each other up. You are not alone. :hrtlegolove:
