When I was suffering from depression and my friends thought I was being fake but they don’t understand
Hi friend. I’m guessing a questioned was posed to Eugenia’s community, but I’m unsure of what so I’m going to try my best
Depression is really hard, especially when our friends are accusing us of being fake. But, it’s also the moment where you find out who your true friends are. The ones that support you and are there for you. Sadly, a lot of people don’t understand mental illness until it affects them personally, and it’s not always through ignorance, sometimes its through having not been educated… I’m not sure which it was for your friends, but I feel like next time you’re in a situation where something like this is happening, try and talk to them honestly, and tell them that depression is real. Educate them a little.
I hope that this hasn’t affected you reaching out for help when you need it - you deserve love and support just like everyone else. Thank you for texting in <3
Mental health issues seems to be something that a lot of people simply do not understand.
There was a time in my life when I was younger when people would accuse me of being fine, faking it or just asking for attention. When I had sincere struggles of depression, anxiety and self harm. I battled it alone for a really long time because I didn’t feel like I could trust people with my feelings. So I understand.
I’m sorry for what you are going through. It’s not always like that. And I hope that you will continue to reach out when you are hurting.
Here is a safe place. We’re all hurting in our own ways. And together we try to lift each other up, love, encourage and support one another as we all fight through our challenges.
So I hope you know you are always welcome here.
You matter. Your feelings matter.
Thank you so much for sharing. I’m sorry that you had to go through that! Your feelings are so valid, no matter their understanding. You are not fake. You are loved. Hold fast
