I’m struggling with an eating disorder and I want to give up
Hey Friend,
I’m sorry you’re going through an eating disorder right now. Whether it’s anorexia, bulimia or binge eating, it can really affect your self-esteem. So first of all, know that you’re beautiful as you are, despite the difficulties you encounter right now. Having an eating disorder does not define you, even if it can took a huge space in your mind and in your daily life.
I don’t know if you are followed by a doctor and / or a nutritionist, but the first thing to do to relieve yourself a bit would be to take a checkup, to make sure your health is not in danger. Whether you have had eating disorders for a long time or not, you may end up needing vitamins or dietary supplements, especially if you try to compensate for what you eat (excessive exercise, vomiting, laxatives, etc.) because you can run out of potassium, which is essential for your body.
You can freely explain your situation to a doctor and, if it scares you, be accompanied. I don’t know if you are minor or adult, but in any case, you may need to talk to your family or your friends about this. To people you trust and who won’t judge you. You don’t have to be alone to deal with this. There is absolutely no shame to have, even if I guess you’re going through this feeling a lot. It’s a cry from your heart and you need some help.
It may seem difficult to dare talking about it because we can feel guilty and responsible for something that is beyond us. But you can get out of eating disorders. And the sooner you get to talk about it, the more easily you can get away with it. I myself went through 10 years of eating disorders without daring to get help and I often regretted it. There were consequences on my body and health that I could have avoided if had been medically and psychologically supported. These situations are often misunderstood, but there are therapies and therapists who master the subject and can be of real help. I had close friends who have been helped for eating disorders and now they’re living very well.
Eating disorders can steal you a lot of energy. But don’t give up, you can do it. There are also relapses and it’s normal. It’s a way of reacting that we tend to keep when we face some difficulties. But it’s an automatism that can be deconstructed and unlearned progressively.
Take care of yourself. You matter and you deserve to feel better.

Hey friend. Thank you for opening up. I don’t struggle with a specified eating disorder, but I do have a horrible relationship with food and my appearance. For me, I often rely on the people that care about me to nudge me and be like “hey, you need to eat” people won’t look down on you for asking for help. Tell the people around you how they can help you start to get better, and work with them. Hold fast <3
Hey friend I also once struggled with a eating disorder. Two different forms of it. What helped me was being honest and sharing what I was going through. I asked my doctor and therapist what I should do. I know that feeling of looking in the mirror and hating what you see. This is not a struggle that can not be helped. There is hope. I had to find my worth, my value, and motivation. I one day looked right into the mirror and said out loud. “I am loved.”
I also want to say you are beautiful and proud of you for sharing this. You are valued and you are loved. Its a long road to fight this but I believe in. I may not be able to carry your struggle for you but I can help carry you.
