I have depression and Anxiety and i noticed since i was kid, that being in pain ( emotionally) was comfortable for me. If that makes any sense because it doesn’t to me
Hi, thank you for sharing! Depression and anxiety is so hard to comprehend but I can relate to how you’re feeling. I felt these feelings began to be comfortable to me too, I think for me, it was because I felt them constantly so I just began to be more accustomed to it. One thing that worked for me was I accepting those feelings and started to try to understand how and why I’m feeling this way. It is different for everyone and it is complicated so I understand if it takes a bit to figure it out but you can do it, I believe in you!
Depression has always been something occurring in phases for me. As Ren has said, it’s a pendulum swinging between light and darkness. The brighter the light, the darker the shadow cast. Finding comfort in emotional pain is not uncommon, especially as it becomes the norm. We are extremely adaptable but we all have our breaking points. I was in the Navy for nearly ten years and spent about half of it on a submarine. It is a constant high stress environment and it becomes the norm. The extreme stress and control we learned to exercise over the environment developed into OCD and bordering PTSD. I was diagnosed with ADHD more recently as well. The ADHD and OCD comorbidity have a very complimentary effect on each other where I feel extremely comfortable with hyper focusing on tasks to extreme levels of detail. So ya, those feelings of anxiety and depression becoming normal make absolute sense to me. I’m right there with you. You start to look for things to be wrong and develop your own anxious spirals because it feels so uncomfortable not having that tension. Know that you’re not alone. You’re more than welcome to reach out anytime youd like a listening ear. We will be here. Supporting others and each other is what we do.
