My friend,
First of all, you are not forgotten. The people in this thread, these comments, this community, us at HeartSupport, we’re here to welcome you to the brotherhood - we’re in this together.
While I haven’t servered, I am very close to the those in the defense of our country. I’ve also had multiple TBI’s that’s completely set me off in a direction of total unknown.
It’s been a journey that has seen it’s many ups and downs, a rock bottom, a redemtion, and a slew of incredible moments mixed in with constant tragedy.
It’s the “Hero’s Journey,” this path you and I are on. What helped me understand this as part of my own path, and something of a safety net to return to as a reminder that these things I’m experiencing, is part of the story that’s been told in a thousand different tongues: The Hero with a Thousand Faces - Wikipedia
There’s those that we find out there in the dark that have been able to surmount these obstacles they face… it’s this part of that journey that’s the toughest, but once you come out on the other side, it’s the to the betterment of yourself and those around you - to allow you to live that life of fullilment and purpose.
I hope this helps shine a little light in the dark out there for you’re own journey.
Stay strong my friend.
My heart goes out to you, friend. PTSD alone can leave you feeling exhausted and defeated. Adding TBIs to that, I cannot even imagine. I had a mild TBI and the migraines, memory issues, and word aphasia are so frustrating at times. I am so sorry you feel so alone with everything. Correct me if im wrong, but it sounds as if you served. FFDP is an amazing band and their outreach to the military community is hopefully a comforting reminder that you are not forgotten even though the struggles can leave you feeling that way at times. So many are out there feeling just like you and even more people out there want to help and have the resources to do so. There is a friend of mine… his name is Dan Nevins. He is a public speaker and i encourage you to look up some of his interviews and such. His story alone may be able to help you feel a little less alone and can hopefully shine a little hope on your situation. Life can be so hard and can hand us some pretty horrible cards. Your feelings are completely valid and it’s understandable that you feel hopeless. But there is hope and so many different forms of help depending on your needs. In the meantime, the HeartSupport community is full of people, including myself, that would love to hear more of your story and hear you out throughout the harder days.
