I know this isn’t related to this song,and I haven’t lost my mother,its about my wife,she was diagnosed with complete kidney failure and has been on dialysis for 4 years,she was rejected from duke university,and is still trying to get on a transplant list,she is a devoted Christian,I’ve heard her beg,plead,pray,and cry for god to help her,and through all her pain,suffering,and fear she still has her faith,so I can relate to Maynard’s views,I try to believe and her light and faith is what keeps me hopeful,even tho a part of me can’t understand how a merciful god,could let someone with that much faith,and love suffer,that’s for anyone going through pain,suffering,cancer,dialysis etc.
Wow, I hear you. It brings up so many questions when someone so devout, so loving, so humble, so kind, is going through so much intense pain. Your wife sounds like an amazingly strong woman to be keeping her faith through kidney failure, dialysis, and rejection. She is holding onto faith that her God is good despite her circumstances and that His will is above her own knowledge of what is best. She wants God to help and to heal her and she pleads with him, but it sounds like she ultimately trusts Him. To see how her faith has also inspired you through these dark times is very encouraging-- her light brightens your life too. Her faith encourages yours. Of course you would question how a merciful god could let someone suffer. It seems so unfair. Yet, your wife holds on to that faith that God is for her and not against her. That is a miracle in and of itself. Some people God may not heal, will they believe that He still loves them even through the hardship, pain, suffering, and sin of this life? The Bible talks about an eternal glory and reward for those who suffer trials patiently. It seems your wife has that kind of faith. My prayer for you is that you will hold tight to that faith as you continue forward, That your trust in a good God will light your way. I hope that in the fog of all these questions you find a truth you can stand on that won’t disappoint you or let you down. I hope you find a peace that surpasses all understanding. I know it can be so hard and confusing when we don’t understand God’s plan when we’re going through so much pain and suffering, especially when we ask him to take it away from us. I try my best to remember when I’m hurting, that God isn’t the one doing this to me. God is love, he isn’t pain, disease, death, or suffering, he didn’t create those things. It’s the sins of the world and the work of the enemy that cause pain and suffering, and the Devil uses it to drive a further wedge between God and his children.
When we call on God as our Father and Jesus as our Lord and Savior to save us, it makes the Devil hate us more, and it puts a target on our backs for hardships and grief. In the Book of Job, the Devil completely ruined a man’s life just to try to get him to rebuke God and prove a point to God that he was stronger than the man’s faith, and yet Job said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” And then it says, ‘In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.’
When we call out to God when we’re in pain, we still rely on and go to him for comfort when things get better or worse, no matter what happens. We can praise God that he gave us what we have while we have it, and still praise and trust him if he takes them away because we know that God loves us and we can trust him to take care of us. I’m so sorry you and your wife are struggling with such a hardship, I admire her faith and strength and your continuing love and support for her. You two are loved and seen in the eyes of God and we are here for you!!
