My friend. When you’re in that much pain, it makes sense that you’d turn to something like alcohol to try to numb it. Sometimes it feels like it’s the only thing that can take the edge off, even if it’s just for a little while. It gives you the impression that you can finally breathe and have a little bit of relief in the midst of what feels like constant fighting and survival. You’re trying to find a way to cope, to make it through another day when everything feels so dark, heavy and lonely altogether.

Your feelings are absolutely valid. It makes sense to feel the way you do given everything you’ve been through. It’s okay to feel sorrow, to feel the weight of loss, and struggling with PTSD is not something to ever feel ashamed of. I too have my share of demons from past traumas and losses, and in another world alcohol would have been my outlet if I didn’t decide to cut if off altogether. You’re doing what you can to survive at the moment, and I’m so very thankful that you’ve decided to open up about it here in the comments. It might not change everything radically, but it’s still a step to break down these walls of isolation, and maybe to take other steps towards healing and extending your support system too. You deserve to have allies by your side. To see the other side of it and feel like experiencing closure with the ghosts that have been haunting you.

I know I’m just a stranger to you, but I believe in you friend. Genuinely. You’re stronger than you realize, and the fact that you’re here, talking about what you’re going through, shows a lot of courage already. It might not feel that way, but I can assure you it is.

We are here for you at Heartsupport. No judgment. Only people who care and want to listen. To encourage you during this time of your life that is made of darkness. You are seen and valued right here.
