The “and justice for all” album is pure gold. This song actually rips my heart apart. “For democracy, any man would send his only begotten son to war”. God knew i didnt have the heart to do that so i was given a daughter. <3 And yeah the whole album was and is art. Its viciously depicting atrocities that make our basic human rights hard to delegate over. There is a reason certain rights are inalienable. Especially freedom of speech. Very heavy topics discussed on this album. The part where he had to fully escape the pain and go to his best memories to remember to use Mores code to escape this hell is heart wrenching. While many would say this song is about “Question Authority” or even the warning of “The hell of war” and an “Anti War Protest Song”…IN Metallica’s own video titled “Three Of One” it is explained that Metallica had an idea for a song about “What would happen IF you have no way to communicate with ANYBODY at all?” in other words you were totally “cut off from society and everything, sight, hearing and speech no longer functioned”!!!

THE POINT to the song is, what if YOU are all alone! Nobody can hear you, nobody can see you, and you are just “ONE”, alone, isolated, abandon!!! And I know first hand HOW this feels myself in that, for me, nobody ever takes me seriously when I talk, I am often ridiculed, mocked, humiliated and taken for granted. And now at 60 years old, I have spent much of my life “alone” even at times when I am in a room FULL of people I am told I “should know”!! Even in my own family, I AM the outsider constantly, so being alone all my years as taught me to be self reliant, self sufficient, and very independent! Though the last 25 or so years I NOW have an amazing woman in my life, BUT even her help, at times I still feel isolated and abandon at times, through NO FAULT of her own!! It has become hard for me to “trust people” and even harder to ask others for help…because of years, decades alone!! And at times I am still all alone in the things I do because it is impossible to for me to find people I can depend on!!

In this time frame thať .etalica and i grew up. Vietnam and correa.had just ended. These souls who did the ultimate sacrfice for the very people who spit in the faces of our precious and brave soldiers! Some of the. It went deeper like this scenario depicted here . And my generation was fucking pissed! How dare we spit in the very faces of our heroic soldiers. Who had the balls to put there lives on the line for the weak ones who didnt have it in them to give any courage at all .our soldiers arrived back in the staes who did survive, hoping for at least the respect and honor for the price they payed!!! For what ? To be dishonored by those they gave it all for and degrated? We wernt having it! We were beyond pissed. We wernt having it!!! Not for a second. So we spoke through our beloved .metalica, among various others. We were denied our voice. But metalica fucking brought it fast, hard and extremly heavy! And we were finally heard, and still heard today! Look at the metalica .moscow concert with pantera, with 1.6 million people in attendance and the movement and middle fingers! I was 15/16 years old when this came out. To put things in context, metal music was on trial for its unhinged lyrics supposedly encouraging and emboldening kids to act out, do crazy/terrible things. 35 years later it’s cool to see people get what it all meant and what it did for fans. Metal was/is therapy that some kids were using to get through all the challenges that come with growing up. Dealing with losing someone, divorce, getting picked on for whatever reason, relationships going bad- metal covers it all, and throws in some escapism with magic and dragons and whatnot. I think it’s why most metal heads are generally well adjusted and 99/100 times friendly. 
Nice reaction! (and there was no video like this at the time. One truly is a piece of art. They were nominated for a Grammy for it! They lost, but did play the song on the televised awards show! Look it up! Metal had been around, but bands like Metallica were almost completely out of the public eye. It was awesome as a kid to see them on regular tv.
