The way you interpret it was correct but this is not about the armenian genocide. I understand your interpretation because the armenian genocide is a historical event that has marked the armenian people significantly but this song is about the attack by Azerbaijan on the armenian territory of Artsakh which took place on 2020 yes, 2020, while Covid was rampaging around the world, this is why I personally interpret Daron’s lyrics when he says ¨If they are evil now then evil they will stay¨ that since the attack came when a world pandemic was raging, if they did this now it’s because they’re evil. System of a down feared that this would be a new armenian genocide which motivated them into action after many years of inactivity but fortunately international actors came into play and put full breakes on this conflict.
