Therapist learns to Protect the Land by System of a Down

It probably won’t get nearly anywhere near the normal amount of views. But I’d love for you to check out Marketa Irglova’s song The hill. It’s a hauntingly beautiful track i wont mention what it’s about but I’d love to see what you extract from it.

Seeing and reading about the conflict escalating once again in real time on the news and then System of a Down dropping this song and video (+ “GENOCIDAL HUMANOIDZ”) was gut-wrenching. The other members had previously parted ways with John Dolmayan over differences in political views, but they got back together for this cause, to raise funds for Armenia. Legends.

Love this song!..

I love this therapist, she’s cool, funny, and awesome person to talked to, i suffer from General anxiety disorder, depression, anger problems, and stress

You should try some Gojira, I would recommend something like “The Gift Of Guilt”. My personal favorite is “The Way Of All Flesh”. You may need subtitles though.

This song isn’t really about the Armenian genocide, but rather about the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan that has been on-going for the better part of 30 years now.

The Soviet Union crushed both countries and put them under their thumb, so from the early 1920’s until 1991 there was forced peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. When the USSR collapsed under it’s own weight in the early 1990’s, Armenia and Azerbaijan were left with a poorly defined border. This has lead to numerous conflicts, most notably in the region of Artsakh/Nagorno-Karabakh. This was land that was internationally recognized as being in Azerbaijan but controlled (through military might) by Armenia) for almost 30 years, enforced by Russian military peace treaties.

So, who SHOULD control that land? It isn’t really clear. Very ambiguous, the sort of thing that we would hope would never result in armed conflict but could be resolved peacefully. Sadly, that didn’t happen. Azerbaijan grew their military to the point where they could retake the territory that was internationally recognized as their own, killing off many Armenians. The rest of the world believed Russia when they said they would deal with this issue and kept a hands-off approach, but Russia was too busy in Ukraine to care about either Armenians or Azerbaijanis.

It’s a SUPER messy war that never should have happened, but maybe was doomed to happen because of 1000+ years of history. I think this song, at least in part, is meant to reflect the complications of this war. People fighting to protect their families from an aggressor while living in a land that was never recognized as their own but they had lived their for generations, supposedly protected by international powers who had abandoned them.

When the war broke out in Sept. of 2023, neither Russia or the Western powers / NATO / the U.S. did anything. It barely even got covered on the nightly news.

She said System of the Down multiple times :joy:

These people in the video are real citizen soldiers.

You are one of the best first time analysts/reactors on YouTube. The way you break down the lyrics, listening to them for the first time is amazing. Keep it up, Taylor, you’re awesome!:heart::heart:

You should really really React to Deathblow From Deftones
its a really good song

The first SOAD track for years, it didn’t disappoint imho

Soil please

I´ve thought so many times to go fight in some battlefield because i was trained as a sniper in the fnnish defence forces but i hate war and i would have never gone to the army but in Finland men can only choose army, civil service or jail. S0 much for equality because i haven´t heard not even one feminist say that women should have mandatory service just like men plus they get paid more than men. Maybe it´s better because some women just didn´t belong in the army, few did but most didn´t

the big gun is influence. obviously military and firearms can dictate your life. nowadays the big gun is in your hands, your phone

The song is about the 2020 war for Artsakh. We ended up losing the war and lost of half of the regions territories. 3 years later the Azeris invaded again and completely took over the region. Whats worth mentioning is that 7 months before Azeris invaded again Artsakh fell under their blockade. It was connected to Armenia with Lachin corridor which is how they were receiving all of their resources in order to survive. The Azeris took Lachin and over 120k Armenians living in Artsakh were starving for 7 months until the Azeris invaded and kicked them out. All of their churches that you see in the video that were located in Artsakh (some of which were over millennium years old) have now been destroyed by the Azeri government

I saw the following comment when watching this song for myself “you know you messed up when system of a down has to come back” I think it’s good because the reason system of a down hasn’t made a song since 2020 is because of a disagreement within the band so the band but the band came together just to make a song about their home land

Actually a pro Armenian resistance song
