Therapist reacts to Schism by Tool

It would be fascinating to watch you at a live Tool concert, if you’ve never been.

i always seen it from the obsessive side, a person who says all the time “i know…” “i know.:” like to affirm himself about it

Looks like tool fans are the only sane balanced people left on the planet!:joy:

Tool since 98…

Bro not only skipped leg day, he skipped all day

Ma’am, I just discovered your videos. I adore them, but I am also a musician. I really would love it if you would consider songs as a full composition of all the parts involved. It seems like you only focus on the lyrics. They are very important. However, Tool is one of my favorite bands, and as such, know much about them. There is a lot to consider about the the structure of the music. It’s complex, constantly playing with heterodox timing signatures that isn’t comfortable read on sheet music. The drummer is possibly the best drummer currently alive. The guitarist is the director of all of their videos, plays this somewhat restricted style, yet can absolutely rip like you wouldn’t imagine, and the bass player must have calluses so thick on his finger tips that he could grab burning coals. There’s a lot there that goes beyond the lyrics. You can find an interview with Danny Carey that explains their writing process; Every other member of the band jams out until they have an album’s worth of songs, then calls in Maynard (the singer, who has other bands, and a winery, etc) to listen to the music and write lyrics, and then they reframe the songs around that. This band will go down in history as one of the best once everyone catches up.

You are right about a lot of things!! But really listen :notes: I’m a big Tool fan! But manerd is a awesome composer!!

This song literally has many different meanings one is Relationship. All there could be religion some maybe some politics on how you feel

Yeah…I love this video and feel like an idiot. This is one of those songs that I knew the words to, but as an adult never thoughtfully re-examined the lyrics. Now my mind is blown. Plus I’m honestly ashamed I never turned my mind on again when I listened to it. Thanks for the video!!!

If you listen to Lateralus really carefully its a whole trip through the phases of a duel

Great songwriters are just vague enough for people to interpret based on their personal experience. I’ve always heard these lyrics as a frustrated plea from a child of divorce who is angry that their parents (who had real love for each other) failed to communicate enough to save their relationship

the MOANING sound you hear before the song begins? is called MANTRA AND it is MAYNARD… GENTLY SQUEEZING his Siamese CAT, in SLOW MOTION. FACT. BWAHAHAA!

The second verse, “watching the pieces fall away…”, has the added ambiguity of addressing not just a personal relationship but our relationship to humanity itself. Or rather, finding the personal in our collective relationship with everyone. With a strong internal witness, we may find that our personal relationship with a partner (or even lack thereof…) may actually in many ways mirror aspects of our relationship to our larger communities (our family, or work colleagues, etc.). This process begins as a consideration of our relationship to the “other”, but ends with our relationship to ourselves. The internal narratives we creates with those “pieces”.

Great breakdown…

Love this song. Hits home.
