I think its about his ex wife but i dont remember where i got that info
Rage against the machine.
The whole song is a double entendre as you said. The Patient and being Patient. You get it. I don’t know that it is specifically tied to his mother, but the parallels are there for sure.
Welcome to the Tool Army. Glad you get the power and motivation that is packed in each song.
I can’t wait means something else to the tool army.
There is a live video where Maynard kind of gives an insight into his personal inspiration for this song. It seems to be about his frustration with fame, and being tired of the antics and oppression from the music industry. His fans and the admiration he gets from them, along with the process of creating, are what gets him through all the bullshit
I always thought this was about recovery from addiction and how staying sober through all of life’s difficulties requires so much patience - but also you might view yourself as a patient in that sense. I also think that the “I’m gonna wait it out” could refer to urges/cravings to use substances!
Make sure to listen to the music uninterrupted and then just a suggestion, have a video of you listening to the song without stopping write down notes if you have to make bookmarks layer it down.
The guitarist bassist and drummer make up the the music particularly from Lateralus 2001 10,000 Days and fear inoculum 2019
Maynard sings to the music afterwards this is why 13 to 15 years can go by between albums, he makes up melodic messages that probably quickly become words at some point… idk what im saying other than i love your reactions and am curious to see u react to Aperfectcricle and puscifer, ad season and such keep going
ty for the video…

Next time you do a Tool song, you should take a listen to the song Reflections.
