Yes, this song is so powerful, especially to us all who have known sexual abuse. Not only the event is in itself traumatic, but it’s so brutal to experience such amount of loneliness after it. It’s hard to talk about it, it’s scary even, and then there’s no guarantee to be heard or fully believed. The last thing you need after being hurt and betrayed in such a way is to have someone else you confide in to not believe you. The rawness of this type of pain is so strongly expressed in this song in particular. It helps, even just to bring a bit of relief, when such a trauma is reflected through the art and the voice of someone else. They speak for, and to so many.
I wish so much that you didn’t have to experience and know at your core what sexual abuse is, how somber the face of an abuser can be when you are hurt in such a way. I don’t know if you ever heard this, but it was not your fault. If you ever carry any sense of guilt, you are mor ethan allowed to push it away with all your strength. The shame belongs to the person who hurt you, and them only.
