i am a 20 year retired submarine veteran who has been in many places on subs supporting the troops on the ground. now submarines life is one the highest stress and dangerous environment there is every thing on s sub can kill you we on several ocassions had a team on board and even they said we must be crazy to be on a sub. but we are not classified as combat vets. with that being said i have ptsd i also shattered my spine on the boat and had reconstructive spinal surgery as well as many other unfortunate things. the last couple years of my career i started drinking and it got really bad after i retired due to pain and many other factors i also lost my family my house and everything i had i got in trouble ended up homeless its been 4 years since then i no longer drink i live alone and i struggle every day to rebuild my life and ive gotten almost no help from the va other than partial dissability but as far as help dont believe it nobody supports a vet unless they are a COMBAT VET but the rest of us are on our own.

Hey friend. Thank you so much for posting here. I am so incredibly sorry about what you’ve gone through.

I have a lot of thoughts but I first want to say that we see you. And I am proud of the progress you’ve made, that you’re back on your feet.

I dont blame you for how you feel, for how you’ve coped with the difficulties you faced during your service and even after coming home. I have more complicated thoughts - but I just want you to know that I see you.
