Thank you for reaching out. It’s such a huge step. Alcohol can be a very destructive and controlling force and making the decision to ask what you can do is one of the biggest hurdles in the process of making a change, if that’s what you want. It sounds like you must be dealing with a lot of pain and must feel like you have no way of managing it except to numb it. It also sounds like you have already recognized that drinking isn’t making any of it go away. If you’re ready to take the steps to making a huge change in your life, let us know and we will get you the info you need. But also like Taylor said in this video, one of the best things you can do is to share what is hurting you and causing you to want to numb yourself. Feel free to tell us about your pain. Just that act can be a great first step. Everyone has pain and everyone struggles to share it. Maybe you don’t want to be a burden, or maybe it’s causing shame. There are so many blocks we put on ourselves when it comes to letting people in. I have to push so hard to share my pain with others. But you’re not alone. We’re here to listen and we want to help!

Recognizing the way we feel and the things we have been struggling with is, in itself, a powerful step. If you have been struggling with alcohol yourself, acknowledging that it is an issue in your life is definitely a first step. I don’t know for how long you’ve been struggling nor what is your life context at the moment precisely, but you can be proud of yourself for opening up about it and considering seeking the support you need. This is fundamental. You’re doing the right thing.

In terms of what to do moving forward, I would definitely encourage you to consider seeking external support - could it be looking at local support/recovery groups in your area, therapy and/or including safe and supportive allies in general in your life. It can be intimidating and difficult to start walking on a path towards healing, especially when it’s about addictions, but ensuring that you would have safe and reliable people to support you along the way is a great thing to consider at first. How to expand your support system at the moment, how to try new pathways where you could access new resources to support you in your own healing. It’s all about creating change and trying out differently, little by little.

Sending much love and strength your way here. Being here, being open about the way you feel and setting your intention into getting the support you need is a major step, my friend.
