I have had problems with alcoholism for a long time and I finally decided to quit because of one thing that is the embarrassment that I feel the next day but I still drowned that in alcohol, It was getting heavy and was crushing my soul. I tried working out with a therapist but it didnt work but I did it myself because I was realising how it was effecting me and people around me. Now I have been sober for few months dark thoughts cover me up and I cant deal with that and so I started using it again and its been a few days and I am not liking it one bit

Hi I just wanted to check in with you. Your post stood out to me because I also have problems with using alcohol to try and feel better. I’m sorry to hear you started using again because you were having dark thoughts. Are you comfortable sharing those thoughts or feelings with anyone, to let them out?
I also wanted to say it’s a big accomplishment to stay sober for an extended period of time such as a few months. Since you did it once, I believe you can do it again.

Hey there friend. Thanks for sharing and opening up about your struggle. This is a topic I have a lot of experience with as I’ve been in the exact same spot you’re in now.

Most importantly, Props to you for recognizing you had a problem and making up your mind to do something about it. Takes a ton of bravery and self-awareness and it seems you have a lot of both.

Dark thoughts are rough and seemingly, no matter how hard we try, they seem to creep in … usually at the worst possible times. They are completely normal and suck and want nothing more than to pull us back into the hole that we’re trying to dig ourselves out of. The fact that you were able to string together a few months of sobriety despite those thoughts is amazing and something that you should be proud of.

As far as relapsing goes, it happens … even to people that have years of sobriety under their belt. When it happens, what’s important is how we react to it. What you have now is something that you didn’t have previously. What that is, is the knowledge that you can actually go through life sober and you were able to do it for MONTHS !!!

For me, I tried for years to get sober by myself and it was a vicious cycle of putting weeks/months together of being sober, but then letting those dark thoughts convince me that it wasn’t really a problem and life was better when I wasn’t sober. It wasn’t until I got myself into a recovery program and actually asked for help, that I was able to find a healthy way to stave off those dark thoughts and demons.

All of that is to say … don’t let the relapse discourage you from the tremendous accomplishments that you’ve already been able to achieve and don’t let it discourage you from trying again. There are people out there that want to help and support, trust me. If nothing else, if you need a listening ear, you can always drop us a msg here and there will be folks willing to help.

Stay strong !!
