I was homeless for a while, I struggle to find and keep jobs because of my PTSD and the physical injuries that cause me to live in constant pain. I’m currently going through a divorce and have a large amount of debt. There is actually a bill from the hospital that is about to become a court issue for me. I can’t afford to pay it. The bill is from the last time I went to the hospital because I was pulling back on the trigger with full intentions of not stopping. I ended up in a VA mental hospital for a while and am going though a lot of therapy. The hospital I went to first wants their money and I can’t pay it. I was finishing my training for my job in the Navy during 9/11, I remember every moment of that day like it was yesterday. I ended up joining the Army right after my contract was up for the Navy. I don’t want special treatment, I don’t want discounts or free services, I just want understanding and compassion. I have neither in my life right now and it’s making any kind of progress nearly impossible. If I’m still here for Christmas it’ll be because of my brothers and sisters in arms.

Hi, I am sorry life keeps throwing punches at you, seemingly having obstacles wherever you turn. You have gone through a lot of very stressful, painful and traumatic experiences and I cannot even begin to imagine how that must feel like.
When you were in training/service during 9/11 l think anyone can understand that that is something that weighs on you. You don’t want special treatment or free services even when considering what happened you would totally deserve that. I hope that my message somehow conveys understanding and compassion for you, I truly feel for you and wish things will improve somehow.
I believe you are valuable and you matter and I hope you can find some resources to help you with your mental, physical and financial struggles. Hold fast!

As a brother in arms, I am here for you and there are many more brothers and sisters here for you too. The sacrifice you made, the pain you experience, and the trauma you feel are unfathomable. And life continues to throw you challenges you don’t want and didn’t ask for. Know you are loved. Know you matter. Know things will get better. Surround yourself with people that can help you get the resources you need and aid you in overcoming the obstacles in front of you. One moment. One day at a time. With you.

I suffered for years with drug addiction and homelessness. It’s extremely hard to get back into the world when life keeps throwing punches at you. There is light at the end of the tunnel. After being under a bridge, 10 years later, I have everything I need! I believe in you!
