YUP. It’s like a tailspin that gets tighter and tighter and faster and faster and careens you into a crash. It can get really brutal because it’s exponential. When it grips you, it’s like a death roll from an alligator - you feel its tug, and then you’re like - oh shoot dude, here we go. NOT READY!!! For me personally, those are times when I have to pop a flare and call in backup. I can’t do it solo. Anxiety is something that I wish I could overcome alone - but actually, I am thankful I can’t. Because there’s something really connecting when I choose to rely on other people. It builds my relationships with them. I get to be loved, to be cared for. Not that I’m necessarily fishing for that with my mental health struggles, but just that that’s naturally what happens. And it actually usually makes them trust me more, and ask me for help when they need it. I find that sharing about my anxiety ends up connecting me more deeply to people I love, and for that I’m thankful. I can battle a lot of shame to actually talk about it, or feel like they don’t want to hear it or won’t care or whatever…but when I do share I’m always thankful. Which is why I’m thankful you shared here! There’s something powerful when we get shoulder to shoulder on the problems we face in life and see we’re not in it alone. Thank you for sharing your voice.
